FAQS

  • Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students play the role of “delegates” from different countries and attempt to solve real-world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country. For example, a student may be assigned to represent the United States and will be in charge of discussing a specific topic (e.g., nuclear deterrence, family planning, etc.) from the perspective of the U.S.

  • HMUN Australia welcomes all students currently enrolled in secondary school or senior secondary school!

  • At HMUN, delegates gain insight into the workings of the United Nations and the dynamics of international relations by assuming the roles of world leaders and international decision-makers. HMUN is an exciting opportunity for young leaders to debate the most pressing issues of the day and to draft innovative, creative solutions. Participants will develop several skills throughout this process, including but not limited to: public speaking, negotiation, teamwork, leadership, and policy crafting.

HMUN allows delegates to get direct mentorship for Harvard college students who are dedicated to providing them with a valuable experience. Our conference provides delegates with skills that will prepare them for the college admissions process and for job opportunities beyond.

  • HMUN Australia 2024 will host its first in-person iteration in Sydney, Australia. More information pertaining to the venue will be forthcoming.

  • Registration instructions can be found on the Apply Now page.

  • All delegates must dress in Western Business Attire (WBA) while taking part in HMUN Australia. As a general rule, WBA requires that delegates dress in a suit jacket, slacks, or skirts, dress shirt, and dress shoes.

National Attire (from the delegate’s home country, not the country that a delegate is representing) and School Uniform is also permitted.

  • HMUN Australia strongly encourages all delegates to attend all committee sessions. Attendance at all committee sessions is required for awards consideration at our conference. However, partial attendance will satisfy the requirements for receiving a Certificate of Participation, subject to the discretion of the conference staff.
